girls: sandusky, ohio

well, yes, it has been a long time since i posted. thanks for asking. I've been considering this blog software and decided that at some point I am going to make the switch to wordpress since its an easier layout and a cleaner design. I really do love pixel post, but it doesn't work for me as a blog with text. If I would just post images this would be fine. However, my portfolio website will remain under pixel post. It is very easy to maintain and add new images so for me, it works. Not so much has happened except that I went to Ohio for a quick visit and considering another one to spend some time with my girlfriends family. I took some photos of some friends and family. One of which I am posting. My cousin's Eve and Isabella who were watching my other cousin Ian play in a band on stage for his graduation party. I felt that this trip yielded a lot of really beautiful photographs of children. To me this photograph is very lifestyle which I think is where my focus with my personal work is going to be. Not so much commercial, although shooting commercially is where the money is, but I want a very natural feel to the photographs I take. Editing is going to be a bitch because the look I am going for is very specific, Suffice to say that photo's like this one are the look. Maintaining that and thinking about it while I shoot is the difficult part. Editing becomes even more difficult because I find it nearly impossible to stay objective about my work OR more so, I have a hard time figuring out what is good or not. There is another photograph of these two taken right after this one in which they are both looking into the camera smiling. I think it is a beautiful photograph but not the same look as this. This is natural. Eve looking at Isabella the expression on her face. It wasn't thought about. It was just there. A few seconds later was thought about - it was a conscious decision - When a camera is pointed at you, you smile. To me, this picture says more than the other one. However, the other one is probably more marketable. Back to Ohio in October to shoot a wedding and senior portraits for my cousin. A lot of photographers I work with say that shooting for family and friends is a bitch. But I quite enjoy it. They respect my work and want to see more, they are very easy to work with and trust my judgement. I wish my family were creative directors and art buyers. It would make life easier. .
